James Brown Is Dead

In December 2004 Brown was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was successfully treated with surgery. He appeared at Edinburgh 50,000 - The Final Push, the final Live 8 concert, on July 6, 2005, where he did a duet with British pop star Will Young on “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.” He also did a duet with another British pop star, Joss Stone, a week earlier on the UK chat show Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. Before his death, he was scheduled to perform a duet with singer Annie Lennox on the song “Vengeance” on her new album Venus, scheduled for release in early 2007.

In 2006, Brown continued his “Seven Decades Of Funk World Tour”, to be his last, performing all over the world. His latest shows were still greeted with positive reviews. His last Irish performance was at the Oxegen festival in Punchestown in 2006.

Brown was admitted to the Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on December 24, 2006 after a dentist visit where he was found to have severe pneumonia Brown died the next day on December 25, 2006, Christmas Day, at around 1:45 a.m. (06:45 UTC) aged 73. The cause of death was heart failure, according to his agent. James was quoted saying “I’m going away tonight” sometime before he passed away. He then took three long, quiet breaths, and closed his eyes.

Keep The Internet Free

What is Network Neutrality?

Network Neutrality — or “Net Neutrality” for short — is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet.

Net Neutrality ensures that all users can access the content or run the applications and devices of their choice. With Net Neutrality, the network’s only job is to move data — not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service. Net Neutrality prevents the companies that control the wires from discriminating against content based on its source or ownership.

Net Neutrality is the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online. It’s why the Internet has become an unrivaled environment for open communications, civic involvement and free speech.

Editing Wikipedia for SEO

From Stephan Spencer’s Scatterings Blog
It’s getting a bit ridiculous how often Wikipedia shows up on the first page of Google for just about every search imaginable. Micropersuasion has noticed it for brand searches. Google’s getting a bit lazy I think to give Wikipedia carte blanche access to page 1 of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Often times Wikipedia doesn’t deserve to be there (like when it’s only a stub, for instance).

Spam Bot Character Graphics that Kill

Tags:
Geek Blog No Comments »

If you surf the web with any kind of regularity I’m sure you’ve seen those spam bot characters when signing up for a website. You know the ones that have a graphic with a random list of letters and numbers. I understand the need for these and in fact use them on a couple sites of my own, but none are as illegible as the following I ran into when trying to sign up for an account at the social bookmarking site Smarking.com.

Check em out.

captcha3 Spam Bot Character Graphics that Kill

I eventually got through with that last one. It says smile if you can’t tell. I understand the need for these to ward off spam bots, but why must they be so impossible for those of us with heart beats to recognize?

I almost didn’t sign up for an account because these were so hard to read and annoyed me to no end. To the guys at Smarky. I’m sure I can’t be the only one complaining about this. Why doesn’t someone get on that over there?
