If you surf the web with any kind of regularity I’m sure you’ve seen those spam bot characters when signing up for a website. You know the ones that have a graphic with a random list of letters and numbers. I understand the need for these and in fact use them on a couple sites of my own, but none are as illegible as the following I ran into when trying to sign up for an account at the social bookmarking site Smarking.com.

I eventually got through with that last one. It says smile if you can’t tell. I understand the need for these to ward off spam bots, but why must they be so impossible for those of us with heart beats to recognize?
I almost didn’t sign up for an account because these were so hard to read and annoyed me to no end. To the guys at Smarky. I’m sure I can’t be the only one complaining about this. Why doesn’t someone get on that over there?
