Spam Bot Character Graphics that Kill

Geek Blog Add comments

If you surf the web with any kind of regularity I’m sure you’ve seen those spam bot characters when signing up for a website. You know the ones that have a graphic with a random list of letters and numbers. I understand the need for these and in fact use them on a couple sites of my own, but none are as illegible as the following I ran into when trying to sign up for an account at the social bookmarking site Smarking.com.

Check em out.

I eventually got through with that last one. It says smile if you can’t tell. I understand the need for these to ward off spam bots, but why must they be so impossible for those of us with heart beats to recognize?

I almost didn’t sign up for an account because these were so hard to read and annoyed me to no end. To the guys at Smarky. I’m sure I can’t be the only one complaining about this. Why doesn’t someone get on that over there?
