2 New Reasons To Hate Windows Vista

Tags:
Geek Blog No Comments »

Ok so I tried playing 2 of my favorite games today, but wasn’t able. I spent a good portion of an hour installing Medal of Honor Allied Assault and Medal of Honor Pacific Assault this morning to get my game on, but no dice. Both games seize up in mid play.

I’ve played both of these games on XP with full graphics and colors and not once had a problem. I checked and I have all my codecs and video drivers installed. Display adapters…yep you betcha. So I have to assume it’s this lop of shit operating system. I have to hunt down my XP disc now.

If you’re reading this I urge you to steer clear of this OS. Yes it is pretty, but apparently 7 years in the making wasn’t nearly enough time for the fucks at Microsoft to get their collective shit together.

WINDOWS VISTA IS SHIT!

WINDOWS VISTA HELL!!!!!!

Too many problems to bitch about without a buzz…I’m going to the bar…Wonderful job Gates…You had what 7 years to test your piece of shit OS…Bravo…

VISTA is pretty, but so are the poisonous frogs of the rain forest. You don’t want to be in the company of either. WHAT A LOP OF SHIT!

Bullshit like this pisses me off that I’m tethered to the Microsoft ball and chain. If it weren’t for the fact that most of the programs I need to run don’t exist on Linux I’d have already made the jump. I need to just fuck this whole PC world and move to Mac.

I’m going to have to go back to XP in the mean time. 7 years and they couldn’t figure it out. Nice work fuckers. I don’t know why I expected anything less.

Short List Of Problems I’m Experiencing With Vista:

  • Canon i860 Printer Not Recognized - Fixed After Research
  • Canon FB630U Scanner - Not Compatible - Currently No Support
  • Kingston 256 MB Flash Drive - Not Compatible - Currently No Support
  • Logitech Web Cameras - Not Compatible With Vista
  • 200 gig Maxtor Hard Drive - In accessible - Open Issue Here
  • Norton System Works 2006 Not Compatible - Open Issue Here
  • DO NOT INSTALL VISTA IF YOU LIKE A STABLE COMPUTER!

Picassa vs. Lightroom, Am I Missing Something Here?

I’m a fan of Picassa, but when I saw Adobe was putting out Lightroom I had to check it out. Now I haven’t gotten into the guts of Adobe’s new program yet, but as far as I can see the only thing it does that Picassa does not is allow you to edit photos. Maybe I’m missing a whole suite of features, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t just use photoshop. I can’t see theupside to this program.

It’s super cool looking, but so is Picassa in my humble opinion. Not that I use Picassa with any great regularity even though I am a graphic designer. I just don’t see paying upwards of $200 for a program that is already 100% free.

    Am I missing something here?

    Adobe Lightroom
    Download Adobe Lightroom Cost: $199.00

    Google Picassa
    Download Google Picassa Cost: $0

    Hunter

2 days ago Anita Thompson had a memorial bonfire and reading for the late great Hunter S. Thompson. She posted it on her blog I believe the morning before the act. She was bombarded with photos from Hunter fans that observed in there own way.

Must Have SEO Plugins For WordPress

    Tags:
Geek Blog, SEO Blog, Web Development No Comments »

First and foremost you should always be running the most up to date version of WordPress. Wordpress 2.1 Ella, named after jazz great Ella Fitzgerald is the most current version out right now.

Below is a list of plug-ins that are sure to direct visitors to your WordPress Ghost Town. Don’t believe me? Install a few and watch the tumble weeds disappear.

    Add Meta Tags
This plugin adds XHTML META tags to your WordPress blog. Its design is based on the assumption that the WordPress categories are used as tags, so it requires no user configuration in order to work.

    Ultimate Tag Warrior 3
Professional Blogger Stephen Spencer turned me onto this one. You can learn a lot about optimizing your blog from this guy.

Ultimate Tag Warrior is a multi-headed hydra of a plugin. It allows you to add tags either through the Write Post page in wordpress in a tag box, on posts using an AJAXy box, and in posts using special syntax from external editors (or internally, if you’d like). From the write post page, you can also get suggestions for tags using the Yahoo! keyword suggestion service.Once you’ve got your tags entered; you enter a realm of interesting ways of doing things with your tags.

    Search Pages
Search Pages is a WordPress 1.5 plugin that makes search queries look at pages and posts both instead of only posts.

    Search Reloaded
The search reloaded plugin for WordPress is a modest attempt to improve the default search algorithm used in WordPress by leveraging MySQL’s full text search algorithms.

    SEO Title Tag
This one is a MUST HAVE! Again Thank you Stephen Spencer!

Title tags are arguably the most important of the on-page factors for search engine optimization (”SEO”). This WordPress plugin “SEO Title Tag”, written by Stephan Spencer of SEO specialist web agency Netconcepts, addresses several limitations in creating search engine optimized title tags for blog posts and for Pages in the WordPress blogging platform. It is completely free and has been released as “open source” under the GPL license. So enjoy!

    Sociable
Social bookmarking sites allow websurfers to save, catalog, and share interesting pages they find online. The Sociable plugin appends links for your readers to use those sites to the end of each of your blog’s posts, increasing your potential audience.

    Terong Related Links
This WP plugin allows you to create related entries to your post.

Not A Plugin, But Worth It’s Weight In SEO Gold

    Squidoo
Squidoo is a sort of blogging platform I suppose with massive search engine appeal. I started building Squidoo’s in October 2006 and have seen huge influx in my traffic. To this day several of my lenses account for a rather large portion of my traffic.

Lenses, as they are called; are crawled by the major search engines and in many instances have out ranked some of the sites I run in terms of popularity. It takes no time to set up a lens and it’s free. I would personally suggest getting one going. There are a ton of easy to use modules and add-ins as well an rss module for syndicating other websites on your lens.
