Bloggers Unite, Stop Drug, Alcohol And Physical Abuse

Blogging for Hope

I feel like a very lucky individual. I grew up in a nice house and have great parents and a wonderfully supportive extended family. My mother was my cub scout den mother and dad built me a club house. In the summer time I’d sit in the back yard with my sister spit watermelon seeds or catch fireflys or play freeze tag.

Thankfully I have precious little to complain about. Like I said…lucky.

..but unfortunately I’m not the norm.

I have friends that have serious abuse histories from verbal to overtly physically abusive relationships between family members, spouses, friends.

I’ve seen some one try to kick heroin. He said the methadone made the marrow of his bones hurt.

I had a friend that faced deportation due to a crack abuse problem. He spent a year in NA and went back to using immediately after his probation was up.

I lived next door to a really nice guy that drank a fifth of really cheap rum every single night.

I had a friend nearly die of a methamphetamine overdose in a bath tub.

But me… I have a good job, a new car and a nice place to call home in a quaint town. Again I’ve been lucky, but I know not everyone has.

So I was having a hard time coming up with my topic for Bloggers Unite. After a little brainstorming I came up with this resource that I’ll continue to add to.

Great job folks! Keep up the good work.

Dexter, A Good Person Doing Bad Things

Tags:

Michael C. Hall of Six Feet Under fame plays Dexter Morgan a blood pathologist and blood spatter specialist who just happens to be a serial killer. As he helps decipher bloody crime scenes he’s acutely aware of how to get away with murder.

In season 1 we see how Dexter became the man he is. See he’s a serial killer that only kills other serial killers and murderers. His father instills a code in him so his son isn’t discovered. A code that he lives by faithfully. A code that helps him seem normal though he has no emotions. His life is a constant act where he tries to blend in with people so they don’t see him for the true monster he is.

Season 1 ends with an interesting twist when Dexter actually discovers who is who he refers to as his, “playmate”, the Ice Truck Killer. You’ll be morbidly surprised to find out just who he is. Dexter’s contacted by the fellow serial killer and admirer. He’s meticulous, intelligent and leaves no details over looked.

Dexter is my new guilty pleasure. Great cast, great concepts and funny yet graphically violent. Check it out if this sounds good to you.

Ronald Jenkees Makes Beats

This off the wall looking character has got some magic fingers. His name is Ronald Jenkees and he makes beats. He’s a comical dude that has some mad skills on the 88 keys. If you like the music you can buy his tunes here. I started following Jenkees on YouTube about a month ago and was immediately impressed. He’s a very talented individual! < -- (hence the exclamation point)

I had to post this one just because it was great. And I think you’ll think it’s great. It’s a poignantly funny mashup given that it’s football season again. So click the play button already.

FUCK MOTOROLLA PHONE TOOLS

Tags:
Geek Blog, Random Bloggery No Comments »

So I just got off the phone with customer support at Verizon Wirelss. I’ve been trying to use my copy of Motorola Phone Tools to get pictures off my phone. Well the program syncs up and gets my contacts, but no longer offers image transfer. The studio; which I can’t remember the name of, no longer has a link to this feature.

Bizzarre thinks I so I uninstall MPT and reinstall it, but am forced to upgrade again once it’s installed. I downloaded usb drivers for my phone, Microsoft Active Sync, BitPim and P2k.

Nothing…grrr….

MPT is connecting to my phone, but I can’t get any of my images, video, txt or ringtones. Well after spending 20 mins on the phone with tech support I finally found out they disabled that feature on some phones because of Verizon Pix Place a service of theirs. I understand them wanting to make more money the grubby bastards, but I already paid money for the software I have and it worked fine before.

So I’m fed up with Verizon and Motorola now and am seeking a new way to access my phone. What I want is something like the Nokia phones. They have it right. When you connect your phone to the computer it shows up as another hard drive. Quick, easy, painless.

Now I realize that I likely wont be able to do just that, but does anyone know how to connect to a Razr V3m?

oh and

Don’t Taze Me Bro

This guy had some valid points, but I’d give him a shot with the tazer gun to if I was locked in a room with him. They’ve been playing the audio on Adam Carolla’s Radio Show for the past couple days. The UF student was asking John Kerry a list of questions and wouldn’t leave the mike. Call me sick, but I’d like to see a website dedicated to people getting tazered.

Swift 3D Product Overview

Tags:
Geek Blog, Web Development No Comments »

I recently finished a project at work that required some 3D animation. Being a Flash designer I opted for Swift 3D. Swift 3D is a fantastic program that works hand in hand with Flash. They even have a 3D Extension plugin for Flash which you can get here.

For those of you that have never used any 3D rendering software I would suggest this package. It was designed for designers who had little or no background with 3D work so it’s pretty user friendly. It’s a little strange getting used to drawing in 3D, but once figure out the different editors it’s really not bad.

Here’s How It Works In A Nutshell

Scene Editor
Swift 3D Screenshots
This is the scene editor view. Here is where you can see your 3D model as a finished product. Here’s where you will position your model for use in drawing.

Extrusion Editor
Swift 3D Screenshots
Use this for creating custom 3D objects. Here you can draw 2 dimensional objects that will be rendered 3 dimensional. Extrusion simply means to give an object depth.

Lathe Editor
Swift 3D Screen shots
The Lathe editor takes the outline and spins it around a center axis. So if you draw half a star, with the center points meeting the Y-axis line in the editor, you might not get what you expect.

Advanced Modeler
Swift 3D Screen shots
This is where a lot of the magic happens. With this editor you can rotate, shape, enlarge and merge your content.

Animation Palette
Swift 3D Screen shots
The animation palette has a whole library of pre-made stock animations. These can easily be applied to your project while in the scene editor.

Preview And Export Editor
Swift 3D Screen shots
Here’s where your project comes together. The Preview And Export Editor combines your images with the animation you are using in vector or raster formats.

Below is a list of links I found helpful and you might to.

I realize this has been posted everywhere, but here’s Jimmy Kimmel’s response to Chris Crocker’s insanely embarrassing YouTube video. I have to admit I thought this was a chick the first time I watched this clip.

I’ve seen a video or 2 from these guys, but didn’t realize they dedicated an entire website to blending different things. Man you really have to love the internet for random madness such as this. I hate to drop a spoiler, but the iPhone didn’t make it.
