Blogging for Hope

I feel like a very lucky individual. I grew up in a nice house and have great parents and a wonderfully supportive extended family. My mother was my cub scout den mother and dad built me a club house. In the summer time I’d sit in the back yard with my sister spit watermelon seeds or catch fireflys or play freeze tag.

Thankfully I have precious little to complain about. Like I said…lucky.

..but unfortunately I’m not the norm.

I have friends that have serious abuse histories from verbal to overtly physically abusive relationships between family members, spouses, friends.

I’ve seen some one try to kick heroin. He said the methadone made the marrow of his bones hurt.

I had a friend that faced deportation due to a crack abuse problem. He spent a year in NA and went back to using immediately after his probation was up.

I lived next door to a really nice guy that drank a fifth of really cheap rum every single night.

I had a friend nearly die of a methamphetamine overdose in a bath tub.

But me… I have a good job, a new car and a nice place to call home in a quaint town. Again I’ve been lucky, but I know not everyone has.

So I was having a hard time coming up with my topic for Bloggers Unite. After a little brainstorming I came up with this resource that I’ll continue to add to.

Great job folks! Keep up the good work.

A Coffee Alternative To Aid The Kidney Stone Blues

Tags: ,
Health Blog 3 Comments »

Now I know what you’re thinking as you increase the kung-fu grip on your trusty brown stained travel mug. I WILL NEVER STOP DRINKING COFFEE YOU COMMIE!!! or I’LL STOP DRINKING COFFEE WHEN YOU PRY MY MUG FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!

I hear you there. I’ve been drinking coffee for years and have no intention of quitting. However, a few years ago I passed my 2nd kidney stone. That’s right #2. So any of you ladies out there think I don’t know what child birth is like….well your right. I do however know what it is like to have a barbed mace spelunking in my innards. I once had the paramedics pick me up as I was rendered unconscious from pain. I then passed out a 2nd time when I got to the emergency room.

Why do I mention this? After doing some research on kidney stones I found that there are a couple things you can do to help avoid them in the future.

  1. Increase the amount of citrus fruits in your diet
  2. Drink more water
  3. Cut back on coffee consumption

I’ve since switched over to drinking more tea. It has as much caffeine as coffee, but it also provides many benefits. Green and black teas are natural diuretics. They aid with the elimination of free radicals and help ward off prostate cancer and Alzheimer’s. The laundry list of benefits goes on and on and on.

With that said, I regularly drink the teas below.

Teas From Taiwan

I would tell you what brands these are, but I really don’t know. I don’t speak Taiwanese. I have a friend that picks me up tea from a small mountainside village every time he travels home to Taiwan. These are free tea leaves not bagged. I prefer these over Lipton, but suit yourself.

Here are a couple of good links for ordering tea online.

Egg Whites With Asparagus & Tomatoes

hummous Egg Whites With Asparagus & Tomatoes

What you’ll need

  • 3 egg whites
  • 2 stalks asparagus
  • 3 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 whole wheat bagel
  • hummous
  • sesame seeds
  • olive oil

Slice the tomatoes and asparagus into thin slices. Broccoli and red onions are also good in this mix! Cook them on medium in 1 tblsp of olive oil for about 5-10 mins.

Then add your egg whites to the same pan. You can make scrambled eggs or omletes…what ever you prefer.

Toast the bagel and spread the hummous on top. I like garlic or onion hummous. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the hummous and enjoy.

Lake Perch With Vegetables

Perch & Asparagus

Here’s another healthy recipe for all to enjoy.

What you’ll need.

  • asparagus
  • 2 red skin potatoes
  • green onions
  • 2 perch fillets
  • olive oil
  • crushed garlic 2 cloves

Cook the potatoes on medium for about 15 minutes on the stove top. Use 1 tblsp of olive oil when you cook the potatoes. Add in as many green onions diced about 10 mins into the cooking process. I use 2 green onions, but use as many as you prefer.

After about 15 mins your potatoes should be almost ready. Add the asparagus to the same pan and cook for about 7 mins. This will leave them crunchy. Cook a little longer if you like them soft.

While your cooking your veggies in another pan get your fish going. Warm the stove top up to a medium hot setting. Use 1 tblsp of olive oil. Add the crushed garlic about 5 mins in and let simmer until done. Usually 15-20 mins should be good.

And that’s it. You have a meal full of omega 3 fatty acids as well as many other important nutrients and you don’t have to feel like your on a diet to obtain them.

-cheers

Cabbage Soup Recipe

Cabbage Soup

  • 6 large green onions
  • 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole) I’ve also used raw cut tomatoes
  • 3 Carrots
  • 1 bunch of celery
  • half a head of cabbage
  • 1 package Lipton soup mix
  • 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
  • 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
  • Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Directions:

Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.

Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.

Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.

Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot.

If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.

You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.

Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

1 Day Gall Bladder Flush

Tags:
Health Blog 1 Comment »

Over the past year or so I’ve been paying extra special attention to what I call, “preventative maintainence”, or “the 30 year overhaul”. That is… I’ve been cleaning out the junk that has been storing up in my body over the years. Due to bad diet, environment and an all around unhealthy lifestyle. My sister is a nurse who turned me onto holistic healing, a more Eastern approach to good health.

I just tried the one day gall bladder flush and was suprised and frightened by the results. Listed below is the procedure I used. Visit this link to read about different Gall Bladder Flushes.

Excerpt From: http://chetday.com/

This is a one-day purge to flush the gall bladder of sediment and stones. Beginning in the morning, eat only organic apples, at least five throughout the day. Green apples help soften the stones more than red. Drink pure water and herbal teas.

At bedtime, warm up 2/3 cup of olive oil to body temperature and mix in 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice. Slowly sip the entire mixture, and then immediately go to bed. Lie on your right side with your right leg drawn up. In the morning, all gallstones should pass in the stool. This flush should be done only with the guidance of a experienced health practitioner.

The olive oil is a little hard to choke down so be sure and have a chaser handy!!
